Golden North Ice Cream was first produced in 1923 after William Bowker started a business on family property here in Laura (circa 1880).
Golden North factory employs approximately 65 people and manufacturers over 12 million litres of ice cream annually.
For over 95 years, Golden North has been a symbol of South Australia and was officially recognised as Heritage Icon by the National Trust of SA in 2006. It has been rated Australia’s favourite ice cream tub by Canstar Blue Award in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 – unprecedentedly four years in a row.
